DOWN HILL SKI

• Dynamite Hill - Chestertown, Free Town Ski Hill (open on weekends and holidays) 
  Town of Chester Recreation Area has a rope tow, lighted ski hill, ice skating rink, warming lodge, lighted cross-country trails and a toboggan run for the non-skiers -- and is free and open to the public. The entrance is located on Route 8, just a few miles west of Exit 25 on I-87.

SNOWSHOEING

• Caroline Fish Memorial Trail - This trail is part of the Town of Chester Recreation Area. The parking area for the snow shoe trail is a short drive past the main entrance (located on Route 8) on Landon Hill Rd.
• Pharaoh Lake Wilderness Area - The southern entrance to the extensive Pharaoh Lake Wilderness Area is located at Beaver Pond Road near Brant Lake.
• Gull Pond Trail and Spectacle Pond Trail - Located near Adirondack, NY, these relatively easy and short trails can be accessed from East Shore Road, which runs along the eastern side of Schroon Lake. Both trails lead through wooded forest to small ponds. Gull Pond has a section of cliffs overlooking the pond that afford a great view of Pharaoh Mountain. Spectacle Pond follows a small brook for a while before the trail verges off toward the pond, which offers its own impressive view of Pharaoh Mountain.

CROSS COUNTRY SKI

• Caroline Fish Memorial Trail - This trail is part of the Town of Chester Recreation Area. The parking area for the cross-country trails is a short drive past the main entrance (located on Route 8) on Landon Hill Rd.

  • Friends Lake Inn has 32 km of groomed trails for all abilities with set tracks and skating lanes. Lessons and rentals are available, as well as dining and overnight accommodations.http://www.friendslake.com/
  • Gore Mountain has more than just downhill skiing. The facility includes 13 km of trails (some groomed), a base lodge with a cafeteria, lessons and rentals.http://www.goremountain.com/
