Community Services For the Elderly (CSE)

Information and Referral

Information is available on services and programs for the elderly with a wide variety of subjects, such as home care, transportation, care giver issues and support groups, senior housing, financial, health insurance and prescription drug coverage, legal assistance, nutrition, etc. Where appropriate, referrals are made to other agencies. 

Interpretation Services

WHCOFA is focused on being able to serve each of our clients to the best of our ability. In an effort to be able to effectively communicate with all individuals in our population and remove barriers, WHCOFA will arrange for the provision of necessary auxiliary, visual, and speech aides, as well as interpretation services upon request. Please reach out to us if you need assistance. 

Legal Assistance

Examples of Assistance are:

  • Landlord/Tenant disputes
  • Social Security/SSI Assistance
  • Medicaid
  • Consumer Fraud
  • Power of Attorney
  • Last Will and Testaments
  • Hospital Patients Rights
  • Health Care Proxy/Living Wills/DNRs
  • Provided through a contract with Legal Aid Society of Northeastern NY. 

Services for the Blind

The Glens Falls Association for the Blind, Inc., offers a wide range of services to individuals who are blind or have serious visual impairments. Through a contract with the WHCOFA, the Glens Falls Association for the Blind, Inc. assists us by providing services to seniors 60(+) years of age. Transportation

Transportation is available in certain towns on a scheduled basis by calling the local town's reservation clerk at least twenty-four hours in advance. The frequency of service varies by municipality, but the typical schedules are indicated below. Currently the WHCOFA has contracts with the following towns for transportation services:

  • Indian Lake - Varies
  • Lake George - Every Wednesday
  • Lake Luzerne - Varies
  • Lake Pleasant - Varies
  • Long Lake - Every other Tuesday
  • Wells-Varies

WHCOFA now has a contract with Warren County Veterans' Service to provide transportation to the other towns of Warren County. This service is available to residents of the towns listed below twice a month. The van will bring clients to the Glens Falls/Queensbury area (or Ticonderoga for our Bolton/Hague residents if they choose) for shopping, pharmacy stops, errands, visits to nursing homes, etc.  Please call our office at PH# (518) 761-6347 to schedule transportation by 12 PM the day before the trip. There are eleven (11) seats on this van so please book your spot.

  • Bolton/Hague - 1st & 3rd Tuesday
  • Chestertown/Brant Lake/Horicon - 2nd & 4th Tuesday
  • Warrensburg/Johnsburg - 1st & 3rd Thursday
  • Thurman/Stony Creek - 2nd & 4th Thursday

WHCOFA also assists with arranging for transportation to medical appointments provided by our dedicated volunteers. Please call the office, PH#(518)761-6347 and ask for Sherry. Unfortunately, due to the limited number of volunteers, we cannot provide transportation for weekly or more frequent appointments (therapy, chemo, etc.), and we cannot guarantee transportation. We are unable to provide transportation for any type of surgical procedures, including day surgery. Please give us at least two weeks notice for all appointments.

The Conkling Center

    Transportation Program provides rides Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4 pm to go to grocery stores, banks, medical appointments, treatment facilities, pharmacies and social events for community members 55+. Will transport within a 20 mile radius of 79 Warren Street, Glens Falls. Please reserve two weeks in advance. Transportation is provided free of charge but donations are appreciated.

    CTS provides rides for the elderly, people with disabilities, and disadvantaged person in need of and without access to transportation for medical, health and other necessary services. Please call the number above one week in advance of an appointment to enable the CTS coordinator to arrange for a driver. The coordinator will return your call and confirm your ride.
