Historical Background | Among the responsibilities given the Superintendent of the Poor was to provide a record of deaths occurring at the Warren County Almshouse to the New York State Department of Health. Instructions for completing the two-part document (Certificate of Death and Report of Death) were very specific, even to the point of providing appropriate detail as as to the cause of death. Indeed, the documents warned that unsatisfactory death certificates would not be accepted! And while individuals were advised that all entries must be completed in their entirety, omissions were not uncommon! |
