Airport Tours
The Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport (GFL) offers tours to school age children. The tours are conducted by Miriam Enman, a Music Professor at SUNY Adirondack. Miriam has been an active volunteer at your local airport for many years. Miriam has a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm for aviation that she shares with your children during the 30 minute airport/airplane tours. Call (518) 744-1470 to learn more.
Flight Instruction
Have you every wanted to learn to fly? Perhaps you would like to enjoy the thrill of a scenic flight? Need some aerial photography? We are here to help you achieve your dreams! Your local airport now has two flight instructors that are ready to help you get started.
Medical Flights
Many of our local pilots volunteer with Angel Flight to arrange free flights to children and adults for access to life-saving medical care throughout the northeast.
NY State Police Aviation
Our airport supports the New York State Police Aviation Unit for Law Enforcement Support, Search and Rescue and Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) services. In addition, GFL aides the Albany station in providing support for Department of Environmental Conservation missions as well as aerial fire suppression missions.
109th Airlift Wing
We receive lots of phone calls from area residents inquiring about that "large military airplane" flying low over the area. What you are seeing is the New York Air National Guard 109th Airlift Wing flying the C-130 Hercules on training missions. Our airport is the perfect place for all kinds of flight training thanks to our precision instrument approach and crosswind runway.
42nd Combat Aviation Brigade
Another common sight in the skies around GFL are Army National Guard helicopters. The 3rd Battalion 142nd Aviation Regiment operates 16 UH-60 Blackhawks from Army Aviation Support Facility No. 3, Latham. Thanks to our pilot controlled lighting the Blackhawks frequently train at GFL for nighttime operations.
