The Warren County Board of Supervisors has hired Attorney Julie Garcia to serve as Administrator of Warren County’s revamped Assigned Counsel Program.
Ms. Garcia brings more than 20 years of legal experience to the position. The Assigned Counsel Administrator plans, oversees and administers the provision of services through the Assigned Counsel Program for Warren County, which offers legal representation to eligible clients in criminal cases and certain family court cases.
Ms. Garcia, a Warrensburg resident who operates a private law practice in Warrensburg, has extensive legal experience as a defense attorney and prosecutor, and served on the New York State Joint Commission on Public Ethics in 2018-19. The Warren County Board of Supervisors voted to hire her at its June 14 meeting.
Said Ms. Garcia: “I’m excited to have this new opportunity with Warren County. There is room for growth in the Assigned Counsel Office in terms of legal education and training while we also look at how we can save money for the taxpayers.”
Said Kevin Geraghty, Chairman of the Warren County Board of Supervisors: “We are pleased to have Julie Garcia join our team. Julie’s extensive legal experience and organizational skills will be an asset for Warren County’s Assigned Counsel program going forward.”
The position that Ms. Garcia has accepted will consolidate two positions that had previously existed within the Assigned Counsel office, Assigned Counsel Administrator and Supervising Attorney. Ms. Garcia will start her new position in early July.
