Warren County Health Services to hold breast cancer awareness events in October

WARREN COUNTY, NY – To commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Warren County Health Services has scheduled five educational events around the county in October to provide residents with information and access to resources to enhance community response to breast cancer. These events are open to the public at no charge.

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women, after skin cancer. Nearly 300,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023, and 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with the disease during their lifetime.

To help improve the odds, Warren County Health Services Health Education staff will be on hand at these upcoming events to publicize free cancer screening that is available for those who qualify through Cancer Services Program of Glens Falls Hospital, to distribute educational materials and offer health-themed giveaways.

Said Dan Durkee, Warren County Health Services Program Manager and organizer of the events: “October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Any cancer diagnosis is a life-changing event. But with better screening tools and treatment options, most people have a positive prognosis after treatment. Early diagnosis is one of the keys to successful cancer treatment. That is why Warren County Public Health and the Cancer Services Program at Glens Falls Hospital are partnering this October to raise awareness and provide educational information about breast cancer prevention and screening at locations throughout Warren County.”

The Health Services events will be held on the following days and at these locations:

  • Thursday, October 5 – Tops Market, Route 9 Chestertown, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Thursday, October 12 – Walmart, Route 9, Queensbury, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Thursday, October 19 – Grand Union, Main Street, Warrensburg, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 21 – Silver Bay YMCA, Route 9N, Hague, 9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m.
