Summer celebration for Warren County tourism workers returns for 2023

Local hospitality and tourism workers are invited to enjoy a FREE night of fun at Six Flags Great Escape amusement park as thanks for their efforts this summer as Warren County’s Summer Workforce Celebration is returning for 2023!

Six Flags and Warren County Department of Workforce Development have teamed up to offer a free night at the theme park, featuring select rides, snacks and awards, on Tuesday, September 12th as a thank you for the workers who serve as the backbone of our tourism industry.  Last year’s first annual event brought over 200 workers to the park, and we are hoping to build on that number this time around.

Employees in the industries of Hospitality, Tourism and Retail in Warren County are invited to attend the event, which will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Registration is required for those who want to attend, and registration can be done through this link. The registration deadline is Friday, September 8th.

In addition, employers and supervisors are encouraged to nominate their employees for awards that will be given out in seven different categories, ranging from Excellence in Customer Service to Sales Extraordinaire. A new award was created this year in memory of Frank Dittrich, the late General Manager of Inn at Erlowest and well-respected tourism industry leader who passed away last December.

Full details on the awards and a nomination form for supervisors and employees can be found through this link.

Liza Ochsendorf, Director of Warren County Department of Workforce Development, said: ““We’re looking forward to celebrating our tourism workforce who choose to work in our county for all the right reasons. They are the backbone of our economy and we hope they stay here. Employee retention has proven to be more important than recruitment because we don’t have a surplus of people to replace workers who leave. This event allows us to celebrate and hopefully retain our greatest asset, our people.”

Rebecca Wood, Resort President of Six Flags Great Escape Theme Park and Lodge, said: “We are thrilled for the opportunity to partner with Warren County to celebrate the true stars of our industry yet again this year. Hospitality and tourism are a vital piece of our community’s economic engine. It is a pleasure to take a moment after the summer season to recognize those that make the largest impact for our guests and teams.”

To top it off, this fun-filled celebration will again benefit a local charity. Workers attending the event may bring one guest for a $5 entry fee, and the proceeds from this fee will go to WAIT House of Glens Falls, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary of providing important services to local youth.

Jason McLaughlin, Executive Director of WAIT House, said:  “WAIT House is truly grateful to be the recipient of this year’s Warren County hospitality, tourism, and retail award ceremony proceeds. Our staff is humbled at the community support we receive from our hospitality, tourism, and retail workforce, and we thank you for all the work that you do to support our great county.”

Make sure to sign up to enjoy some fun with your colleagues as a thank you for all you did during our busy summer season!
