Bay Road near Quaker Road to close July 11 for bridge replacement

QUEENSBURY, NY – Warren County Department of Public Works is advising motorists of a planned closure of a portion of Bay Road, also known as Warren County Route 7, near Quaker Road for a bridge replacement project beginning at 6 a.m. Monday, July 11th.

The Bay Road bridge over Halfway Brook, 150 feet north of the Quaker Road intersection, is scheduled to be replaced.

This will result in detours that will use Glenwood Avenue, also known as Warren County Route 34, to travel from Bay Road to areas south of the construction site and Meadowbrook and Cronin roads to travel north of the construction site on Bay Road. (See attached map)

Detour signs will be put in place, and the detour is expected to remain until August 28th.

In addition:

  • Local access to businesses in the affected area will be maintained during the closure via the north side of the closed area.
  • Access to Lowe’s Home Improvement Center will be via the Glenwood intersection or the Quaker road access near Applebee’s Restaurant. Trucks will be able to enter the Lowe’s delivery entrance on Bay Road north of the intersection
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained over Halfway Brook via a pedestrian bridge on the east side of Bay Road.

The bridge that is being replaced was built in 1975. The metal culvert pipes that make the current bridge have deteriorated, resulting in the New York State Department of Transportation flagging it for structural deficiencies.

A public information meeting on the project was held by Warren County DPW on September 9, 2020, and an archived video of this meeting can be watched here.
