March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and Warren County Public Health will be taking a new prop on the road each week during March to help local residents learn more about colon health.
“The Colon Cave,” a 10-foot tall, 20-foot long walk through inflatable replica of the human colon, will be making appearances at a number of public events starting on Friday, March 7, 2025.
The big bowel is not just any old healthy colon. It comes equipped with replicas of the maladies that can afflict the colon, showing the progression from polyps to the different stages of cancer, as well as diverticulitis and more. Visitors can pass through it to learn more and view the visual aids inside.
Come see the Public Health staff and learn more about your colon on:
- Friday, March 7 – Crandall Public Library, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
- Friday, March 14 -- Glens Falls YMCA, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
- Friday, March 21 – Aviation Mall, 1 p.m.-6 p.m.
- Saturday March 22 – Aviation Mall, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
- Friday, March 28 -- Adirondack Thunder hockey game, Cool Insuring Arena, 6 p.m. (Hockey ticket required for entry to arena).
The Colon Cave was purchased with NY State grant funding that was awarded to Warren County Public Health as a performance incentive in 2024. The incentive stemmed from the Public Health staff’s work with the Town of Johnsburg to create a new active communities plan.
If you're 45 and over, you may be due for colon cancer screening. Call Glens Falls Hospital's Cancer Services Program at 518-926-6570 for more information about local options.
