Volunteers sought for homebound senior meal delivery program

WARREN COUNTY, NY -- Warren Hamilton Counties Office for the Aging is looking for additional volunteers to help deliver meals to our homebound senior citizens in order to return the delivery schedule to 5 days a week.

COVID-19 has affected the number of volunteer drivers who are available, as many are older retirees who were at greater risk. Meal delivery is currently being offered 3 days a week, and the goal is to resume 5 day a week delivery as was offered pre-pandemic.

The Office for the Aging currently has a particular need for drivers in the Glens Falls/Queensbury and Lake George areas. A vehicle and availability during the late morning and early afternoon on weekdays are necessary.

Meal delivery is particularly important for our homebound seniors, as the delivery staff provide socialization that many may not get otherwise.

Said Kevin Geraghty, Chairman of the Warren County Board of Supervisors: “Our senior meal program is an important lifeline for many residents, and our benevolent team of volunteers have been the backbone of the meal delivery effort. We appreciate all that these volunteers have done to help our neighbors. If you have some time to spare on weekdays to help our seniors, please contact our Office for the Aging staff.”

The Office for the Aging also has paid positions available at senior meal sites, details of which can be found at warrencountyny.gov/vaf.

Anyone who would like to help our seniors can email parkd@warrencountyny.gov or call 518-761-6347.
