Warren County seeks senior meal site staff
Workforce issues may cause program changes
Warren County needs your help to keep our senior meal sites fully operational.
Amid unprecedented workforce issues, senior meal sites and kitchens in Warren and Hamilton counties have had openings for cooks and meal site managers on and off for months.
To compound problems, the vendor that supplied food to senior meal sites has also been hindered by pandemic-related manpower problems, and opted not to supply food to Warren County going forward.
This has led to temporary changes in some of the locations where the program operates, but it is the hope of the Warren/Hamilton Counties Office for the Aging, the Warren County Board of Supervisors and the Hamilton County Board of Supervisors that we can safely return services to normal in the near future.
Warren County Administrator Ryan Moore has worked to secure the services of a new food vendor.
But to keep sites open, we need to fill the meal program jobs that have been difficult to fill amid workforce challenges around the region.
That’s where the benevolent residents of our region come in.
Our senior meal program is a lifeline for many of our seniors, providing good, nutritious food as well as socialization and a friendly face for those who are homebound or live alone.
We are so grateful for our hardworking staff at our meal sites, our home delivered meals volunteers and the community members who have stepped up to help to continue to provide support. But more help is badly needed.
“We are going to do everything possible to safely keep these services intact for our seniors, but our meal sites are frankly in desperate need of additional staff to prepare and assist with the creation of the healthy and safe meals that are made daily and delivered to the seniors who we care very much about,” explained Rachel Seeber, Chairwoman of the Warren County Board of Supervisors. “We are asking our retirees, college students, individuals with a love for cooking or those who are looking for a part-time job with morning hours to please help us help our senior citizens and consider joining our team here in Warren County.”
There are openings at meal sites in Queensbury, Lake Luzerne, Warrensburg, Chestertown and Indian Lake, with substitutes needed who could pick their days, locations and hours.
