Warren County to rename airport entrance for former Lake George supervisor
QUEENSBURY -- There were few things former Lake George Supervisor Louis Tessier liked as much as parking his recreational vehicle at Warren County Airport to watch the hot-air balloons take flight during the Adirondack Balloon Festival.
Tessier, a former chairman of the Warren County Board of Supervisors and Lake George Town Supervisor, spent countless hours on the tarmac every September, helping balloon festival staff and airport staff any way he could. And as a pilot himself, he valued and recognized the importance of safety and investments in aviation during his time as a supervisor.
With the Balloon Festival returning in just a few weeks, those who descend on the airport for the iconic Warren County fall event this time around will find an observance of Tessier’s commitment to the airport – a renaming of the entrance to the airfield in his honor.
Those who drive in to the facility will do so via Lou Tessier Way, as the driveway to the airport tarmac and offices will be known going forward. A brief ceremony will be held at the airport to commemorate the honor on Friday, September 10th at 2 p.m.
At its August 20th meeting, the Warren County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a resolution bestowing the honor of a renamed airport entrance road for Supervisor Tessier.
Said Rachel Seeber, Chairwoman of the Warren County Board of Supervisors: “Supervisor Tessier’s commitment to the airport and balloon festival were unparalleled and it’s only fitting that those who visit our airport in Warren County see his name as they arrive. Supervisor Tessier's vision will continue to inspire community members and leaders for years to come as we dream big and work hard, as Supervisor Tessier did for so many years. We are happy to honor our friend and former colleague at this airport on the eve of the balloon festival that he so loves.”
Said Lake George Supervisor Dennis Dickinson: “Lou was very dedicated to the town of Lake George and Warren County, and it is apt that we have our airport entranceway named in his honor in light of all that he did for the town, the county and the airport.”
Supervisor Tessier served as Lake George Supervisor from 1983 through 2009. He was Chairman of the Warren County Board of Supervisors from 1996 to 2000, after he spent five years as county budget officer. He plans to attend the ceremony.
