Warren County Sheriff's Sgt. Pasquale "Rocky" Girard risked his own life by jumping into the rain-swollen Hudson River the night of June 28 to pull two people to safety from just above the dam between Lake Luzerne and Corinth. (Watch video here from @WNYT NewsChannel 13 https://bit.ly/3rBkrd3)

The Warren County Board of Supervisors on Friday, July 21, honored Girard, who has been with the Sheriff's Office for more than 33 years, with a proclamation that thanked him for going above and beyond the call of duty.

Warren County Sheriff Jim LaFarr called Girard's actions "true heroism," and told county supervisors how close the situation came to being disaster.

"These people would absolutely not be alive today if it wasn't for Rocky Girard's actions," Sheriff LaFarr said.

Thank you Sgt. Girard for being a dedicated public servant, and putting your concerns for others ahead of concern for yourself.
