GLENS FALLS, NY – Nearly one in five people in the U.S. will suffer some form of mental illness during their lifetime, but many don’t know how to get help.

Warren County Public Health and Ascend Mental Wellness are partnering to try to change that, by hosting a workshop December 12, 2024 to help educate the public about mental health issues and local options for mental health assistance.

The “Mental Health 101” event will be held in Crandall Public Library’s Christine McDonald Community Room, 251 Glen Street, Glens Falls, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

This will be the fourth of the agencies’ Mental Health 101 programs in 2024, similar to events held in Queensbury, Warrensburg and Chestertown.

In addition to a presentation from experts and related discussion, the event will include a number of community organizations that will be on hand with information about their services, including mental health services.

The program will include discussion of:

•     An overview of how mental health impacts overall health

•     The differences between mental health and mental illness

•     How to recognize signs and symptoms of poor mental health

•     Local treatment and support options

There is no charge for the event, and registration is not required. Those with questions can call Dan Durkee at Warren County Public Health, 518-761-6580 or email durkeed@warrencountyny.gov.
