
Warren County leaders honored crime victims and those who assist them Thursday, April 10, 2025 during a ceremony commemorating National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.
The Warren County District Attorney’s Office held its annual observance of Crime Victims’ Rights week at the newly renovated Supreme Court Courtroom in Queensbury, a ceremony that included recognition for victims and those who help them in their times of need. National Crime Victims’ Rights Week has been celebrated annually since 1981. The observance is dedicated to education about victimization, the effect victimization has on individuals, families, friends and the community, and to promote laws, policies, and programs to help victims of crime.
With the 2025 Crime Victims’ Rights Week theme focusing on kinship, connecting and healing, Warren County District Attorney Jason Carusone pointed out that the criminal cases at the center of this year’s ceremony were successfully prosecuted in a large part because of cooperation among numerous agencies and organizations.
Honored during the ceremony were:
- Manon Affinito, Director of the Warren County Victim Assistance Program and Michaela Choppa, Warren County’s Senior Crime Victim Specialist for their unwavering commitment and support to victims of crime in Warren County.
- 1st Assistant District Attorney Matthew Burin, Assistant District Attorney Benjamin Smith, Assistant District Attorney Avi Goldstein, and Legal Clerks Emily Caivano, Stephanie DeFalco, and Deondra Davis for their specific contributions to cases related to the ceremony.
- Members of the New York State Police and Indiana State Police who investigated a child sexual assault case that involved a suspect in Indiana who committed crimes in Warren County, leading to a conviction and lengthy prison term for the defendant.
- Representatives of the Glens Falls Police Department, NY State Division of Parole, NY State Crime Analysis Center in Albany and Warren County Planning Department who assisted in the investigation and prosecution of a spree of gunpoint robberies and attempted robberies in Glens Falls.
- Errol Miller, one of the victims in the aforementioned Glens Falls robbery spree, received the District Attorney’s Office’s annual “Courage Award” for testifying against the man who robbed him at gunpoint in Glens Falls.
- Past and present members of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Enforcement Unit, for their dedication to addressing drug crime and combating child exploitation.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Warren County District Attorney’s Office, victims of crime and their loved ones, victim service providers, members of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Police, New York State Division of Parole, and the Glens Falls Police Department, as well as Indiana State Police virtually. Also present were members of the Warren County Board of Supervisors, local judiciary, and representatives for State Sen. Dan Stec and Assemblyman Matt Simpson.
Kevin Geraghty, Chairman of the Warren County Board of Supervisors, read a proclamation adopted by the Warren County Board of Supervisors, thanking those who assist victims of crime for their difficult work and proclaiming this week National Crime Victims’ Rights Week in Warren County.
