Warren County receives nearly $400,000 in grant funding for projects
WARREN COUNTY, N.Y. -- Warren County is pleased to announce that the county will receive hundreds of thousands of dollars in New York State funding for four projects to help protect Warren County’s environment, determine housing needs of residents and promote recreation in Warren County.
Warren County, through grants applied for by the Warren County Planning Department, will receive $380,338 in state funding for a series of projects to:
- Help reduce the solid waste stream in Warren County -- $40,000 in state funding will be used towards an $80,000 project to develop an Organics Management Plan designed to increase collection of organic material to keep it out of the waste stream.
- Assess housing needs across Warren County -- $46,000 in state funding will be used for this joint project involving Warren County Planning, EDC Warren County and Warren County Local Development Corp. to undertake an assessment of housing needs across Warren County. This information will be integral in determining how to move forward to improve housing opportunities for Warren County residents.
- Improve boat inspection and decontamination programs on Schroon Lake -- A $251,838 grant will help fund a collaborative effort that includes $50,000 in local funding to help purchase a mobile boat decontamination unit and expand outreach to lake visitors.
- Create a plan to leverage growth in Warren County’s outdoor recreation economy -- $42,500 in state funding will go to a $100,000 project to develop a countywide plan to maximize use of recreational opportunities, including identifying underutilized assets in order to grow this important industry.
Said Wayne Lamothe, Warren County Planning Director: “These awards through the New York State Consolidated Funding Application program represent the culmination of many hours of staff time across multiple departments here in Warren County. I am extremely pleased that New York State recognized the value of the projects proposed in these grant applications. Earlier we received New York State funding for Countryside Adult Home as well, and this funding reflects a significant accomplishment in addressing the needs within the county. We are thankful for the assistance of our Department of Public Works and Purchasing Department with these projects as well.”
Said Rachel Seeber, 2021 Chairwoman of the Warren County Board of Supervisors: “We are grateful for this funding from New York State, which combined with local funding will help our staff complete projects that will have great benefits to the residents of Warren County as well as our environment. We are also very appreciative of our county staff who worked hard to make these successful grant applications.”
Planning for the projects will begin later this year. For additional information on these grants, log on to the NY State Governor’s Office website here.
