Why was the data set created?

To assist the Warren County Tourism Department with spatial and attribute queries to find suitable meeting facilities in the county.

How was the data set created?

  1. From what previous works were the data drawn?

  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?

    Date: September 2006 (process 1 of 1)
A hardcopy listing of convention and meeting facilities was borrowed from the Warren County Tourism Department. A MS Access database was created, with two separate tables - the first containing contact information about each facility, and the second including details about each room. A relate field - facility name - enables the two tables to be associated in GIS or other database applications.

Forms in MS Access were designed for easy data entry. When all the data was completed, and missing information obtained (e.g., physical address, number of guestrooms for facilities with lodging), the tables were exported to DBASE format.

In ArcInfo ArcCatalog 9.1, the first table containing the facility contact information was geocoded using the Warren County Street Centerline layer as the address reference layer. Batch matching was conducted first, followed by interactive geocoding with all matches with less than a 60% match score or unmatched.

The point layer resulting from geocoding was added to an ArcInfo ArcMap 9.1 basemap document containing parcel boundaries with assciated RPS, street centerlines, and aerial photography series (2004 and 2001). Each facility location was checked for accuracy, cross-referencing with these data. In some cases, the facility was contacted by phone to further clarify the location. In ALL cases, the point feature was moved from the raw geocoded location to the actual building (or central location for large complexes like ranches) as visible on the aerial photography.

  3. What similar or related data should the user be aware of?

How reliable are the data; what problems remain in the data set?

  1. How well have the observations been checked?

The physical address and number of guestrooms, if not explicitly specified in the Handbook, was verified by a direct telephone call to the facility. All text included in the Handbook for each facility was also incorporated into this data set.

  2. How accurate are the geographic locations?

Each facility point was positioned by cross-referencing multiple sources - aerial photography (2004, 2001 series), tax parcel boundaries with RPS, facility website, and direct phone calls to the facility (as needed for clarification).

  3. How accurate are the heights or depths?

  4. Where are the gaps in the data? What is missing?

This data set includes all faciltiies listed in the Warren County Tourism Department's hardcopy Convention and Meeting Handbook.

  5. How consistent are the relationships among the observations, including topology?

How can someone get a copy of the data set?
