GIS Day 2008!


GIS Day 10th Anniversary

November 19th, International GIS Day, will be celebrated in Warren County in several ways. The annual Geography Quiz will be distributed to the County and municipal staff, there will be a "Year in GIS" map gallery decorating the hallway outside the Planning Department, and the GIS Administrator will be hosting "GIS Jeopardy" for an earth science class at Glens Falls High School.

GIS Day in 2009 is scheduled for Wednesday, November 18th.

GIS Day is principally sponsored by the National Geographic Society, the Association of American Geographers, University Consortium for Geographic Information Science, the United States Geological Survey, The Library of Congress, Sun Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard, and ESRI.

GIS Day is part of the National Geographic Society's Geography Action, a year-long initiative encompassing key educational achievements such as GIS Day and Geography Awareness Week. The National Geographic Society has sponsored Geography Awareness Week since 1987 to promote geographic literacy in schools, communities, and organizations, with a focus on the education of children. GIS Day is held on the Wednesday during Geography Awareness Week.
